Planning a Trip to Europe You'll Need an ETIAS Application

Planning a Trip to Europe? You’ll Need an ETIAS Application

Starting in 2025, visa-exempt travelers will be required to complete an ETIAS application prior to boarding any airplane, coach vehicle, or sea carrier for Europe. The ETIAS application requirement includes travelers who will only be transiting in Europe en route to other destinations.

These European Countries require visa-exempt travelers to have an ETIAS travel authorization:
Austria
Belgium
Bulgaria
Croatia
Cyprus
Czech Republic
Denmark
Estonia
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Hungary
Iceland
Italy
Latvia
Lichtenstein
Lithuania
Luxembourg
Malta
Netherlands
Norway
Poland
Portugal
Romania
Slovakia
Slovenia
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland

Applications should be submitted at least 2 months prior to departure to guarantee entry.

The ETIAS application can be found on the official ETIAS website. Most applications are approved within minutes, but some can take as long as 30 days if there is a denial, which requires appeal.

The authorization is tied to your passport, so no additional documents are required once approved to enter the EU, and is good for 3 years. It allows travelers to remain in the EU up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
