Experiences in Sicily: Tradition and Authenticity
Among all the places I’ve been, Sicily holds a special place in my heart for its beauty and cultural richness. One of the most unforgettable journeys was guiding a traveler as she reconnected with her roots in a small Sicilian village. By translating, guiding, and bridging the gap between her and the local community, we pieced together her family’s history, visited significant places, and met community members who held precious memories of her family. This transformed the trip into an emotional journey back to her origins.
Another unforgettable experience was an evening at a home restaurant on Mount Etna. Carmensita, the cook, prepared a typical Sicilian feast while sharing stories about her culinary traditions. My role was to connect the group with the local culture, translating and enriching her narrative. The evening was made even more magical by the music of Giuseppe, Carmensita’s husband and a pianist, who played his own compositions, creating a warm and intimate atmosphere.
One of my most memorable experiences as a travel facilitator took place in the Aeolian Islands, made special by Giuseppe, a local resident who brought the archipelago to life through his stories. As we sailed between the stunning islands, he shared legends and history, creating a deep connection between travelers and the land.
The journey became a sensory experience, culminating in an unforgettable moment—watching the sunset while observing an active volcano, something that words can never fully capture—it must be lived.
