Umbria is a picturesque region in central Italy known for its beautiful countryside landscapes dotted with hilltop towns, lush green valleys, and vineyards. It’s also famous for its art and rich cultural heritage, with historic cities like Perugia and Assisi.
Umbria is known as Italy’s green heart due to its vast wilderness and rolling hills. Unlike its neighbor Tuscany, much of Umbria remains untouched by mass tourism and still offers authentic destinations and well preserved traditions.
Its capital Perugia is a culturally vibrant city with roots in Etruscan times. The city plays host to one of Italy’s most prominent higher education institutions where students make up a large part of the general population giving the area life and energy. Chocolate is also a standard fare here with the largest chocolate festival in the world taking place each October.
Lake Trasimeno (also known as the Umbria’s Sea) is a must visit while in the region. The lake is a tranquil place to immerse yourself in nature with small villages dotting the shoreline, the pace of life is much slower and more simple than what you might experience in some of the more frequented lakes to the north.
Visit a wide variety of medieval towns and explore the unspoiled natural beauty of the incredible region.
